http://www.patrimoine-et- ...ealer-honda-michigan/Resources About Honda Atv DealerHigh Rider ATV Testing the new Kawasaki Brute Force 750 4X4i
The new Kawasaki Brute Force 4X4i features a 749-cc, V-twin engine providing awesome performance from start to top-end. 12'' tires with more aggressive tread blocks and restyled wheels also add handling and performance.
Kawasaki introduced the ATV world to high-performance 4X4 utility ATVs with, its Prairie 650 4X4 and its successor, the Prairie 700 4X4. I tested and wrote about each of those machines with their awesome V-twin engines and their great ride and handling.
Now the company tops its own success with the all-new 2005 Brute Force 750 4X4i. I tested the new ATV under several conditions. As you can guess, the engine power is awesome. From a dead stop, drop the throttle and power is instantaneous. Up in the mid-range you also have a lot of back-up power for quick acceleration when needed. And, up on top, the machine can make your heart pound. Powering the Brute Force is Kawasaki's revolutionary 90-degree, four-stroke V-twin engine. With a bore and stroke of 85x66 mm, it displaces 749 ccs and features new, plated aluminum cylinders, a reverse-facing air intake, new 34 mm downdraft carburetors and straight intake tracts, and four valves per cylinder. One of the features I liked about both the previous Prairie models was the Kawasaki Engine Brake Control. This helps slow the ATV when traversing down steep hills. Some of the trails on which I tested the 750 had challenging dips and turns, and the 750 engine braking was extremely good, providing instant braking response with throttle let-off. Another feature I like is the high-efficiency radiator mounted high in the chassis. This protects it from mud and debris and also from obstacles poking into it.
Like the Prairie 700, the 750 transfers power from its V-twin engine to the wheels through a continuously variable transmission (CVT) featuring high and low ranges plus reverse. By simply pressing a button on the handlebar, you can select two- or four-wheel drive. In four-wheel drive mode, the Brute Force utilizes a limited-slip front differential. This provides easier steering under most ground conditions. When you really need traction, however, you can pull the lever on the left-hand handlebar and engage the Variable Front Differential Control. This delivers torque equally to the right and left front wheels.
The front drive shafts of the Brute Force feature new Cardan joints-another industry first. Similar to U-joints, Cardan joints help absorb torque fluctuations to the drive shaft and their lightweight design also helps to reduce vibration.
Another feature I really like is the new fully independent rear suspension (IRS) system. The 750 is the first Kawasaki 4X4 to feature this type of suspension. An independent rear suspension allows for much more flexibility at the rear end and more maneuverability. You can literally crawl over boulders, logs and other obstacles and the riding balance is much better as the suspension adjusts to the terrain. The rear final gear case and sealed rear braking system have been redesigned in conjunction with the new IRS. Smaller and more compact, the gear case is, however, extremely rugged and efficient.
Actually, the first thing you'll notice about the new Brute Force is the seating position. You sit more upright and nearly 21 '' inches higher than on the Prairie 700. At first I thought this might cause handling problems on sharp turns, but not so. In fact, I was better able to shift body weight due to the new position. The higher position also provides a better view of the terrain.
The seat has also been redesigned with more padding for better comfort. The new automotive-style instrument panel is also positioned more vertically to suit the new riding position.
Dual front disk brakes and Kawasaki's distinctive sealed rear braking system provide plenty of stopping power. The rear system is completely sealed to protect from mud, dust and debris. Its compact size also provides for more ground clearance than a conventional rear disk brake system.
The Brute Force 750 4X4i utilizes a quite simple, yet sturdy double-cradle frame made of tubular steel, while the suspension is all new for a Kawasaki 4X4 ATV. Rather than the MacPherson struts and aluminum swingarm featured on the Prairie 700 4X4, the Brute Force features front dual A-arms and the IRS rear system. The front dual A-arms have adjustable shocks with 6.7'' of travel, while the IRS features a leading torsion bar and provides 7.9'' of travel. By utilizing a combination of needle bearings and ball joints in the lower rear A-arms, the new IRS provides smoother suspension acti
